KAMALA AWARDS 2019
The Crafts Council of India is a not-for-profit, non-governmental organization or NGO which works for the sustainable development and growth of India’s handicrafts and craft artisans. CCI was founded in 1964 by Smt. Kamaladevi Chattopadhyay whose passion and leitmotif in life was the survival, nurturing and growth of India’s treasure house of crafts and to make crafts part of the country’s everyday life. CCI has followed this philosophy and trajectory through multi prong strategies and programmes: workshops in design and product development, revival of languishing crafts, documentation, marketing, educate to sustain programmes for children of hereditary craft persons and lobbying for the crafts sector. CCI also acknowledges the skills and contribution of outstanding craft persons through Annual Awards.
The Crafts Council of India instituted the Annual Kamala Awards in 2000 in memory of Smt. Kamaladevi Chattopadhyay to honor and recognize craft activists and hereditary craft artisans for their work.
The specific five CATEGORIES under which the Kamala Awards are given are:
Category A – Kamala Award for ‘Excellence in Craftsmanship’:
The Kamala Award for Excellence in Craftsmanship instituted by The Crafts Council of India in the year 2000 recognises the high level and proficiency of skill achieved in his/her traditional craft by an artisan, as exhibited in his/her body of work executed over the years. The award carries a cash prize of Rs.10,000/-, a medal, a certificate, citation and a shawl.
Category B – Shanta Prasad Award for ‘Excellence in Handloom Weaving’:
Since 2005, The Crafts Council of India has been administering the Shanta Prasad Award for Excellence in Craft. This award has been instituted in memory of late Smt. Shanta Prasad, CCI member and treasurer, by her family. The award carries a cash prize of Rs. 10,000/-, a medal, a certificate, citation and a shawl.
Category C – Kamala Award for ‘Contribution to Crafts’:
The Kamala Award for Contribution to Crafts instituted by The Crafts Council of India in the year 2000 honours a senior craftsperson for his/her contribution towards the development of traditional craft and the training of younger people in the skill. The award carries a cash prize of Rs. 10,000/-, a medal, a certificate, citation and a shawl.
Category D – ‘Young Artisan’ Award:
The Young Artisan Award honours an artisan who is below 30 years of age and shows exceptional skill and craftsmanship. The award carries a cash prize of Rs. 10,000/-, a medal, a certificate, citation and a shawl.
Category E – Kamala Samman: The Kamala Samman Award of The Crafts Council of India is the highest among the Kamala Awards. It recognises and honours a senior person whose long and dedicated work in the field has significantly benefitted craft communities and transformed their lives. The award consists of a silver plaque, a citation and a shawl.
Important – Please Note:
Applications are open for Categories ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘C’ ad ‘D’ only.
Category ‘E’ ie. Kamala Samman will be selected by CCI and is not open for application.
Every Nomination should be enclosed with:
- Photograph of the Candidate
- Bio-data of the Candidate
- Profile of the Candidate prepared by the State Councils / NGO / DCH endorsing an application
- Photographs of their Craft to be sent along with the bio-data
Criteria governing the Awards are:
(A). Kamala Award for Excellence in Craftsmanship
Given to a craftsperson for a body of work.
Criteria –
- Quality of work
- Quality of finish
(B). Shanta Prasad Award for Excellence in Handloom Weaving
Given to a weaver for Excellence in Weaving Skills.
Criteria –
- Quality of weaving
- Quality of finish
(C). Kamala Award for Contribution to Craft
Given to a craftsperson who has substantially contributed to the development of his craft and community.
Criteria –
- Above 45 years of age
- Teaching & spreading knowledge of the craft
- Effort to revive the craft
- Innovation, Documentation
(D). Young Artisan Award
Given to a young craftsperson for Exceptional skill and Craftsmanship.
Criteria –
- 30 years of age and below
- Exceptional Quality of work
- Experience of at least 5 years under a mastercraftsperon
(E). Kamala Samman
Given to a person working in the craft field.
Criteria –
- Minimum of 25 years of experience in the sector
- In-depth knowledge of craftspeople and traditions
- Familiar with work done by NGOs and Government in the sector

पुरस्कार के 4 श्रेणियां हैं :
श्रेणी ए – शिल्प में उत्कृष्टता के लिए कमला पुरस्कार
शिल्प में उत्कृष्टता के लिए कमला पुरस्कार वर्षों में किए गए कार्यों में प्रदर्शित एक शिल्पकार द्वारा प्राप्त उच्च स्तर की प्रवीणता और कौशल को मान्यता देता है। इस पुरस्कार में 10,000 / – रुपये, एक पदक, प्रमाण पत्र, उद्धरण और शाल का नकद पुरस्कार है।
श्रेणी बी – शिल्प में योगदान के लिए कमला पुरस्कार
शिल्प योगदान के लिए कमला अवॉर्ड अपने पारंपरिक शिल्प के विकास और क्षेत्र में युवा लोगों के प्रशिक्षण में उनके योगदान के लिए एक वरिष्ठ कारीगर का सम्मान करता है। इस पुरस्कार में 10,000 / – रुपये, एक पदक, प्रमाण पत्र, उद्धरण और शाल का नकद पुरस्कार है।
श्रेणी सी – बुनाई में उत्कृष्टता के लिए शांता प्रसाद पुरस्कार
बुनाई में उत्कृष्टता के लिए शांता प्रसाद पुरस्कार पारंपरिक हैंडलूम बुनाई में प्रवीणता के लिए एक कारीगर का सम्मान करता है। इस पुरस्कार में 10,000 / – रुपये, एक पदक, प्रमाण पत्र, उद्धरण और शाल का नकद पुरस्कार है।
श्रेणी डी – युवा कारीगर पुरस्कार
युवा कारीगर पुरस्कार एक कारीगर का सम्मान करता है
जो 30 वर्ष से कम आयु का है और असाधारण कौशल
और शिल्प कौशल दिखाता है। इस पुरस्कार में
10,000 / – रुपये, एक पदक, प्रमाण पत्र, उद्धरण और
शाल का नकद पुरस्कार है।
कृपया निम्नलिखित नोट करें :
1) यह अनिवार्य है कि आवेदन पत्र विस्तार से भरा हुआ
है और इसकी संपूर्णता में है। कोई विवरण नहीं छोड़ा
जाना चाहिए | नामांकितों को बायो-डेटा, पासपोर्ट आकार फोटोग्राफ और शिल्प फोटोग्राफ भी संलग्न किया जाना चाहिए।
2) एक सिफारिश पत्र आवेदन के साथ प्रस्तुत किया
जाना चाहिए और सभी कारीगरों के लिए अनिवार्य है |
कृपया उन राज्यों में सीसीआई की संबद्ध परिषदों सेसंपर्क करें जिनसे आप हैं | ऐसे राज्य में जहां कोई सीसीआई संबद्ध परिषद उपलब्ध नहीं है, आप अपने राज्य में ए डी – डी सी एच विपणन कार्यालय या स्थानीय क्राफ्ट एनजीओ से अनुशंसा पत्र के लिए अनुरोध कर सकते हैं।

कामला पुरस्कार – क्रिट्रिया :
प्रत्येक नामांकन निम्नलिखित के साथ संलग्न होना
चाहिए:
1. अभ्यर्थी की तस्वीर
2. अभ्यर्थी की जैव डेटा
3. परिषद / एनजीओ / डीसीएच द्वारा तैयार उम्मीदवार की प्रोफाइल
4. बायो-डेटा के साथ उनके शिल्प की तस्वीरें भेजी जानी चाहिए
पुरस्कारों की श्रेणियां और उन्हें नियंत्रित मानदंड हैं :
श्रेणी ए – शिल्प में योगदान के लिए कमला पुरस्कार
एक शिल्पकार को देखते हुए जिन्होंने शिल्प और समुदाय के विकास में काफी योगदान दिया है
मानदंड –
– 45 साल से ऊपर की आयु ;
– शिल्प के ज्ञान को पढ़ाना और फैलाना ;
– शिल्प को पुनर्जीवित करने का प्रयास ;
– नवाचार, दस्तावेज
श्रेणी बी – शिल्प में उत्कृष्टता के लिए कमला पुरस्कार
काम में उत्कृष्टता के लिए एक शिल्पकार को दिया
मानदंड –
– काम की गुणवत्ता ;
– शिल्प कौशल की गुणवत्ता
श्रेणी सी – बुनाई में उत्कृष्टता के लिए शांता प्रसाद पुरस्कार
बुनाई कौशल में उत्कृष्टता के लिए एक बुनाई को देखते हुए
श्रेणी डी – युवा कारीगर पुरस्कार
असाधारण कौशल और शिल्प कौशल के लिए एक युवा शिल्पकार को दिया गया
मानदंड –
– 30 साल की उम्र और उससे नीचे ;
– काम की असाधारण गुणवत्ता ;
– कम से कम 5 वर्षों के लिए एक मास्टर क्राफ्टस्पर के साथ काम करने का अनुभव
