Overview of Techniques involved
1. Sourcing and Transporting raw material and raw material preparation
- Coconut husks

2. Retting the coconut husks
- In this process the shreaded coconut husks are left immersed in water for a period of time to facilitate easy fiber extraction.
3. Pounding the coconut husks
- The retted and dried husks are then pounded to separate out the fiber.
4. Hand spinning
- Coconut fibres are attached to hooks.The wheel is turned by hand. In the process the coir is twisted and inturn spun.
5. Playing/Twisting
- The lady approaches the wheel with a block of wood which brings the 2 ropes together. It is then unhooked and ready for the pile.
6 . Re-twistign and playing
- Two spun rope are given reverse twist and plied twisted with each other for a thicker size.
