“Celebrating Handlooms”
Everyday has been “handloom day” through the many millennia of India’s history, from mohenjodaro’s 5,000 year old scrap of madder cloth wrapped around a silver spindle, through ancient and medieval trade routes, to the country’s positioning today as the biggest handloom producer in the world. This celebration in continuum of handlooms is the  leitmotif and primary focus of The Crafts Council of India’s vision and philosophy.
CCI works in the areas of revival, innovation,  design, use of natural dyes and huge marketing support for handlooms and its weavers across the country. CCI’s landmark annual ‘Crafts Bazaar’, ‘Textile Show’, ‘Craftepreneur’ exhibitions and other sari & textile ‘pop-up’ shows are celebrations of handlooms.
CCI’s Kamala shop is a destination non pareil for the best in specially created and curated handloom textiles from pristine to classic and contemporary, from rare Banarasi, patolas, jamdani, kanjeevarams and tangail to equally rare khadi, muslins and linens, unique bhujodis and gamcha sarees and more.
The Crafts Council of India celebrates ‘Handloom Day’ this year with an exclusive exhibition of Handloom Textiles starting 7th August(till 17th August 2019) at Kamala Crafts Shop, Egmore, Chennai – With textiles such as Maheshwari, Begumpur, Khadi, Other Bengal cottons, Chanderi, and Benares. It will include Sarees, blouse material, stoles and dupattas all sourced directly from Weavers
